When we are talking small SUVs, the Ford Puma is an extremely popular choice, but is it worth all of the hype? Here’s a complete Ford Puma review, letting us help you make the decision.

Brief History

It’s no coincidence if you think you’ve heard of the Ford Puma in the past, it was originally a small, sporty coupe, but was retired in 2002. Jumping to 2019, the Puma made a comeback as an all-round compact SUV. While it’s built on the same platform as the small Ford Fiesta, it offers a much higher driving position and much more space.

Since relaunching, the Ford Puma is not only one of the most searched cars in the UK, but has consistently been one of the best selling cars, outpacing the Nissan Juke and Volkswagen T-Roc (both being extremely popular here).

Design & Interior

When looking at the cars exterior design, you’ll quickly notice its sporty styling. With Ford’s iconic new grille, bold exposed headlights and the roofline of a coupe, it has a dynamic shape that makes it stand out compared to most cars in its class.

The Puma has at least 5 different trims covering Ford’s usual styles (Titanium, ST-Line, ST-Line X, Vignale, ST).

The interior has been styled with convenience in mind, having a central touchscreen (Ford SYNC 3 or 4), sometimes a digital dash and everything that the driver needs within a fingers press.

A feature that owners of the Puma rave about is the ”Megabox” Underneath the boot floor is hidden storage space, allowing for an extra 80 litres of space. It’s waterproof and comes with a drain plug, adding loads of value to the car and making it practical for a whole heap of activities.

Engine & Performance

The Ford Puma has a range of engine options, all with different possible uses and advantages:

The first and most common engine you’ll find in the Ford Puma is the 1.0L EcoBoost Hybrid (125PS – 155PS). Using a small electric motor to aid the petrol engine in its tasks, the car makes plenty of torque and is economic. The 125PS variant is well balanced, while the 155 provides a nice boost for overtaking or motorway driving.

Moving on to its sportier friend, the Ford Puma ST uses a 1.5L EcoBoost to make 200PS. Made for enthusiasts, it’s fun to drive and can do 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds. Features that come with this model include larger brakes, stiffer suspension and different selectable driving modes.

The third model is the Ford Puma Gen-E which was released this year (2025). It’s all electric and realistically delivers up to 200 miles per charge. Ideal for city drivers or people looking to reduce their carbon footprint, the car is quiet while offering plenty of torque.

Safety

Earning a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, the car is packed with safety features keeping the driver and passengers as safe as possible. Features that support this in the Puma include: Lane-keeping assist, Pre-collision assist, Traffic sign recognition and Adaptive cruise control.

Verdict

The Ford Puma is an incredibly well-rounded vehicle and is a brilliant example of how to mix a coupe with an SUV whilst keeping practicality in mind. Whatever needs you have, there’s a model of Puma for nearly all drivers.
